Swiss Banking Academy growing with new formats

The Swiss Banking Academy enjoyed a successful year in 2025, with a wide range of learning events, new formats and increasing numbers of participants underscoring its importance to the banking sector.

Through the Swiss Banking Academy, the Swiss Bankers Association (SBA) makes pooled specialist know-how and insightful expert perspectives available to its members. The Academy acts as a central platform for knowledge gathering and transfer, offering up-to-date, practice-based content on banking topics from those with first-hand experience. It aims to help bank staff contextualise developments better and specifically expand skills – and thereby strengthen the Swiss financial centre as a whole.

The Academy’s resources are geared to ease of access, thanks in particular to a broad array of digital formats. It offers guidance in an increasingly complex regulatory and economic environment, and provides a forum for knowledge sharing beyond specialisms and banks.

Strong growth and widespread usage

In 2025, around 4,000 people took part in Swiss Banking Academy webinars and seminars – some 30% more than in the previous year. Participants predominantly come from SBA member banks, reflecting the Academy’s strong roots in the sector.

In all, 38 events were organised, with everything from compact webinars to deep-dive specialist seminars covering a wide variety of topics.

“The Swiss Banking Academy provides up-to-date, in-depth specialist knowledge about developments in the world of banking. For us as a member, it’s a reliable source of information that helps us contextualise regulatory, technical and strategic issues efficiently.”

Franziska Amstutz, Head of HR and Organisational Development, Valiant Bank

New ideas from the “Monthly Specials”

One key milestone in 2025 was the introduction of the new “Monthly Specials” format. This complements the classic Academy events in specific areas, tackling issues that are not covered directly by the SBA’s specialisms but are still of relevance to the sector.

The Monthly Specials are designed to broaden horizons and are aimed at a wide audience among SBA members. Topics last year included pensions, new career models in the financial sector, client advisor certification, and a bank bankruptcy and the role of esisuisse in the deposit protection system. The high level of demand confirms that many bank employees want to look beyond their own specialist area and gain a better understanding of the bigger picture.

Continuity and outlook

In 2026, the Swiss Banking Academy will once again be operating its tried and tested formats. The webinar series on sustainable finance will continue, bridging the gap between academic research and practical implementation.

“The Swiss Banking Academy allows me to interact directly with experts from among our members, and is the ideal place to discuss and move forward on topical sustainable finance issues together.”

Erol Bilecen, Head of Sustainable Finance, SBA

Meanwhile, the offering continues to evolve. The content of the Monthly Specials is being expanded to include topics such as the Swiss Finance Museum and art as an investment. A further highlight is Digital Finance Day, which takes place for the fourth time on 3 November 2026 in Zurich and has become an important venue for experts to meet and discuss digital developments and future topics in the financial sector.
